A full 10 years after the event was first launched in an intimate Rosebank nightclub, the Feather Awards celebrated their memorable tenth anniversary in grand style at the Johannesburg City Hall. In honour of the evening, we have here our five favourite fashionable moments that hit home, let’s do this!

 NO: 1

The Stylista team loved how the evening was filled with hilariously scandalous commentary from the MC, a Feathers veteran, Somizi,  awe-inspiring performances from Nhlanhla Nciza, the Mzansi Gay Choir and Zoe Modiga,  surprise appearances from reality TV stars Evodia ‘Madame’ Mogase and her daughter Mercy, coupled with incredible choreography and a dazzling stage production, the Feathers once again delivered the phenomenal spectacle audiences have learnt to expect from the event.

The most anticipated item of the evening, the winners list reads like a roll-call of Mzansi’s most inspiring, most amusing, most controversial and most admired personalities. A party is not no party without Lady Yaya, seen above, she is our absolute favourite blogger, who you will find at all of Mzansi’s A list events, mingling and reporting on the stars of SA. Look at her … After many years of serving the entertainment industry she finally gets her recognition.

Winning Artist of The Year Sjava has stolen our souls! This outfit may not be as fashion forward as we would like it, however the fact that it was curated in honour of all the lesbians that have been murdered for just being. The box on his anonymous face in the image has faces of the all the mudrerd that have occurred due to discrimination.
From the tongue-in-cheek categories like ‘Drama Queen of the Year’ and ‘Fag Hag’,  to the thoughtful ‘Role Model of the Year’ and ‘African Feather of the Year’,  that pay tribute to figures in the LGBTIQ community who’ve inspired, through their activism and commitment to the community, the Feather Awards ceremony was a moving reflection of the evolution that the platform has undergone in the last decade.

To dial up the community-facing initiatives that take place over the year, powered by the awards, Thembi Ntaka performed an award winning piece “Save Me” that made all our hearts sing! She really knows how to put together a performance, look at that costume and the dancers … One of the popular Feather projects highlighted in through performance are Community Dialogues, which tackles issues about LGBTIQ+ rights, needs and interests.

You should have seen a yummy Kelly and her new man Chad looked together! Her performance however, is our favourite moment, she pulled the stops on EVERYONE, considering her streak of luck over the years, we feel this is a sign that all is coming back together. We are glad to have our Kelly back with those crazy vocals of hers.
The awards ceremony was followed by a rollicking street after-party where guests celebrated in true Mzansi style, rounding off what has been an incredible decade of the Feather Awards.

Here is a quick wrap up of the Top 5 winners from the 10th annual Feather Awards, we look forward to celebrating our own brothers and sisters again for another 10 year of great fashion moments, by those who shape our communities.
