Summer Ready with Buhle

Summer Ready with Buhle

Summer is by far the most favoured season in our home. It brings an energized and refreshing feeling into our lives.  The sun shines longer, flowers are in full bloom and life in general seems a bit brighter.

We teamed up with TFG to share some tips and ideas on how to prepare for a magical picnic experience in our backyard. I thoroughly enjoy dressing up my backyard with vibrant colours to take on a certain theme. I asked the kids to come up with the perfect name for our special picnic experience and my eldest son Lukhona shouted ‘THE SECRET GARDEN.’ I fell in love instantly.

So what’s the perfect picnic vibe?

Firstly, make sure you choose a sunny day. Pack essentials such as cosy pillows, a blanket or a large beach towel, healthy snacks, drinks, melamine utensils, a picnic basket and some happy faces.

We chose this large beach towel with striped yellow tassels, because yellow represents warmth and it’s welcoming like the sun. It’s a colour with a higher energy output than say blue, which is calming. It naturally makes us feel happier and more energized! We also love its versatility. It can be utilized in your backyard and at the beach.

The kids’ favourite item is definitely this ice lollipop tray. It’s called the Zoku Mini POP Maker. I love items that get everyone involved. There’s something special about watching your kids enjoy something they made themselves. My kids are currently into freshly squeezed juices and homemade smoothies, so it made sense for us to turn both drinks into ice lollipops.

I would recommend our smoothie and freshly squeezed juice recipe for a hot summer day, besides, it’s a fun and tasty way to pack a ton of healthy nutrients into a treat that’ll make you feel great.

Below are the ingredients for the red smoothie, green juice and carrot juice.

Red smoothie:

Frozen Strawberries Raspberries Banana Ginger Coconut water

Green freshly squeezed juice:

Cucumber Spinach Pineapple Ginger

Orange freshly squeezed juice:

Carrots Spinach Ginger Apples

When it comes to salad bowls, I’m all about keeping it classic. This Atlantic porcelain salad bowl is both playful and beautiful, perfect for a picnic or a formal affair. I love everything about it. The wooden servers and the wooden handle give it an earthy twist. It’s a perfect gift for Christmas.

What’s a picnic experience without a cute Acrylic jug and glasses set. This set is a must have for a family with little humans who are still exploring their environment.

Last but not least, is the 3-piece cheese set with a board and the bamboo dinner plate in cream. We thought they both would be perfect for serving delicious nibbles. Think fruit, savoury biscuits cheese, antipasti, beautiful salads and homemade dips.

Don’t forget your portable speaker, my eldest son Lukhona picked out the Volkano fabric bluethooth speaker from Hi that added the perfect touch of funky music to set the ambience in our Secret Garden.
