The words that have dominated twitter, whatsapp groups and the world over, Black Panther. The film was released to resounding cheers from social media and is beloved the world over. The film has had a momentous effect on every possible element of society, but today we’ll be looking at the Wakandan fashion takeover!

Celebrities and citizens alike embraced the dress code of one of Earths most vibrant and colourful continents, and we fell head over heels in love with every piece of clothing, and statement piece that adorned our social media feeds. We also noticed that during New York Fashion Week, a handful designers created bespoke collections inspired by Marvel’s first Black superhero, Black Panther. And like the movie’s L.A. premiere that put every other red carpet to shame, the one-of-a-kind Cushnie et Ochs , Fear of God, Ikiré Jones, LaQuan Smith, Sophie Theallet, and Tome looks speak not only to each labels’ dedication to empowerment and individualism through fashion, but we need look no further then our own back yard for the perfect Wakandan fashion because truthfully it all started right here. So, we threw together a few of our favourite African designers, who are yours?
